Q) Would it matter if I do not donate blood?
Ans) There is always a high demand of the blood components. There
is always a shortage of blood. Approximately 1 out of every 8 patients who require
blood components only get the transfusions rest suffer.
Q) I Fear a needle prick?
Ans) If for the first time, yes' it is natural with the majority
of the donors. Once you have a habit of donation you will not fear it. Just have
one thing in your heart that you are saving some ones life.
Q) I am not healthy?
Ans) Do not worry on that aspect we have a qualified doctor who
would ensure that your donation does not effect your health in any manner. We have
a health interview, which you have to answer it truly and this helps us ensure that
you are fit to donate blood and that the blood is fit for transfusion. Still you
feel that the doctor has missed out something, confidentially let him know so that
if deemed appropriate you should be excused from donation.
Q) Does my age allow me to donate?
Ans) Any healthy person who is 18 to 60 years can donate blood.
Q) I do not have time?
Ans) The actual donation process just takes about 5 to 10 minutes.
The total donation time about 30 minutes.
Q) What do I have to do when I come up for donation?
Ans) When you arrive you have to fill a form then you would be
asked a few routine questions about your health. You have to ensure that you answer
these questions with honesty as any false information may affect your health or
the patient who is going to receive your blood. The donation which is followed by
testing a drop of blood for hemoglobin level you would be given refreshment and
then allowed to go.
Q) Will I become anemic after donation?
Ans) No, as stated earlier before donation we check your hemoglobin
level. Within 24-48 hours the blood volume is replaced by the body itself. You have
to ensure a gap of about 3 months between any 2 donations.
Q) Will the donation give me any kind of disease?
Ans) Not at all. All the bags being used for the donation are used
once. After the donation the needles are separated from the bags and burnt. The
bag after the transfusion is incinerated. So, you see there is absolutely no chance
of any disease transmission when you donate blood.
Q) Is my blood significant or necessary?
Ans) All types of blood are needed. Infact, the more common a group
is the more often it is required.
Q) What in return would I get by giving blood?
Ans) You are saving some ones life. Would you not feel proud in
doing so? The immense satisfaction which you get after donating blood can only be
felt. Try and experience it at least once.
